Recently, I went to Singapore for business and toured the country. They have some unusual laws such as it’s illegal for anyone to be selling or chewing gum. If you get caught not flushing the toilet in a public restroom you will be fined. If you connect to an unsecured wifi it is considered hacking. There are many others but the one that stuck out was when I entered the country they give you a customs card with a red stamped statement ‘drug dealing is illegal and automatic death penalty’. They’re not messing around and if you travel to Singapore don’t gamble online.
In an attempt to stamp out a growing grey market of online gambling in Singapore, the government has passed a bill that prohibits nearly all forms of online gambling. The Remote Gambling Bill essentially bans all forms of real money online gambling in the country, including online poker.
“The bill will criminalize the entire spectrum of remote gambling, from individual gamblers to facilitators; agents and runners, to operators. The bill also provides for website and payment transactions blocking measures, as well as advertising bans,” said S Iswaran, the responsible minister from Home Affairs.
